Every post on this website belongs to an "Entity".
You can consider an entity to be similar to a Facebook Group or Business page. An entity is owned and controlled by the person that creates it and they have control over how it is displayed, what features are activated and who can interact or create content within it.
Should I Create An Entity?
If you are a business and you want to create multiple posts then it is best to create an entity for them. If you just want to quickly post something (maybe you just have one property to rent) then you can post it in one of the "open entities".
Advantages of Creating an Entity
If you create an entity then you can change the cover image and icon that is displayed along with your posts. You can update the "about" section of the entity to introduce your company / profile.
You can also create a "footer" that is displayed at the bottom of every post. This could be useful for displaying your contact details without having to repeat them every time you post.
When users visit the homepage of your entity they'll be able to see your information and all your content posted together, grouped by category.
How do I know which entity I'm posting to?
If you are currently within an entity and you click the "publish" button then you are posting to that specific entity. Note that you may need to join the entity before the publish button is available.
If you are not within an entity, or you change the section / category within the create form then we'll add your post to the default "open entity" for that section. We'll auto join you to the entity if you have not already joined.
If there are multiple suitable entities that your post could go in (for example, if you have joined multiple entities within the same section) then you can select the best entity on the create form.
The easiest way to make sure you are posting to the correct entity is to click the create button from within your chosen entity.
What are Open Entities?
To accommodate those that just want to quickly post content without worrying about managing settings etc then we have created "open entities" for each section. Anyone is free to post in these as long as they follow the site rules.
Why are they called Entities if they are the same as groups?
Because they may not act like a group. For example, a Real Estate company would use an entity to list their properties, whilst a forum entity could be used to group forum topics.
This post itself is within the
SITE_META entity. An entity which we'll use to publish simple blog posts and maybe forum topics.
